On December 13,2023,the Norwegian Ministry of Industry,Trade and Fisheries issued an important regulation,deciding to implement a fishing ban on bluefin tuna from January 1,2024.This measure reflects Norway’s commitment to marine ecological protection and sustainable fisheries.

This regulation applies to Norwegian and foreign vessels conducting fishing activities in Norwegian waters.

Scope of Application: Reporting and port call regulations

Reports and Port Berthing Regulations

(a) In the event of accidental catch of bluefin tuna during fishing for other species,it must be immediately reported via telephone to the Norwegian Federal Maritime Commission.

(b) The catch of bluefin tuna can only be landed at ports designated by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).

(c) If vessels need to land at foreign ports,they must comply with ICCAT requirements and issue a prior notice of call to the destination port.

Prohibition of Transshipment: Transshipment of bluefin tuna is strictly prohibited to prevent the circulation of illegal catches.
