Export Agents: Types,Roles,and Settlement Methods

Types of Export Agents

Comprehensive Export Manager

If overseas sales account for only a small portion of the companys overall sales,or if the company does not want to set up an export department to handle foreign market operations, then the comprehensive export manager is an ideal solution.Comprehensive export managers provide export management services such as overseas advertising, customer networks, sales plan formulation, and business information for exporters.

2.Manufacturers Export Agent

This is a highly specialized export agent, also known as the manufacturers export representative. It is equivalent to the function of the manufacturers export department.Authorized by the manufacturer, they represent the export business and receive a commission. The manufacturers export agent acts in their own name rather than on behalf of the manufacturer. The services they provide are usually fewer than those of a comprehensive agent, and they are usually not responsible for export financing, credit risks,transportation.etc.

3.Export Management Company

The Export Management Company performs functions similar to those of a manufacturers export department, providing a wide range of services, including finding customers, promotion, market research, cargo transportation, etc. It can also negotiate debts and seek secured transactions for the manufacturer. However, its main function is to liaise with foreign customers and conduct credit inquiries.

4.Export Intermediary Broker

This type of agent is only responsible for bridging the gap between the buyer and the seller. They do not own the goods nor physically hold the goods, and they receive a commission when a deal is reached between the two parties. The commission is usually limited to 2%.Export brokers usually do not have a fixed relationship with the buyer and the seller.Export brokers usually specialize in one or more products. Most brokers deal with heavy goods or seasonal goods, such as machinery, mining, and agricultural products.

Settlement Methods for Export Agents

If the customer has the right: 1.After receiving foreign exchange, the agent settles the RMB transfer to the principal according to the banks foreign exchange rate.

2.The agent applies to the competent tax bureau for the Certificate of Agent Export Goods and applies to the principal.

3.The agent issues an invoice for the agency fee to the customer and collects the agency fee.

If the customer does not have the import and export right:

The principal issues a VAT invoice, the agent applies for export tax rebate, and the agent pays the principal according to the invoice amount. The financial settlement is the same as that of domestic procurement and sales.
