Our factory has just developed a series of LED silicone strips and one-piece molded strips, and we want to export them to the European and American markets. This is our first attempt to do so.Excuse me: 1) How to determine the customs code? Does the silicone material require special certification? 2) How to proceed with the customs clearance?orIs it worth it? 3) How can I negotiate payment methods with foreign clients that are both safe and help secure the order?

The customs classification of LED strips requires distinguishing specific types. Strips with a silicone coating are typically classified under HS code 9405.40 (Other electric lamps and lighting fixtures),but if they are bare LED strips (without fixed fixtures),they may fall under 8539.50. Silicone materials themselves are not subject to special regulation, but finished products must comply with the environmental protection regulations of the target country: for exports to the European Union,RoHS and REACH test reports are required, for the US market,F(xiàn)CC certification is necessary. The key risk point lies in customs intellectual property verification. It is recommended to truthfully declare the brand on the customs declaration form and prepare brand authorization or self-brand registration certificates in advance. The declaration elements must accurately describe "LED silicone integrated molded strips" to avoid using vague product names, otherwise the inspection rate will significantly increase. Additionally, attention should be paid to the differences in export tax rebate rates. For category 9405,the tax rebate rate is 13%,for category 8539,it is also 13%. However, incorrect declarations may affect subsequent tax rebates.

The preferred mode of transportation for silicone strips is maritime shipping, as full container loads (FCL) offer the lowest cost. A 20-foot container can accommodate approximately 150,000 meters. Air freight is suitable for urgent replenishment or samples, but the freight cost is 8-10 times higher than maritime shipping. Silicone materials can withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to 200°C, but they must be protected against heavy pressure deformation. Packaging must include hard paper tubes for rolling, outer boxes, and pallets, and nude packing is strictly prohibited. It is recommended to use FOB terms, with the buyer appointing a freight forwarder. The seller only needs to deliver the goods to the designated loading port, minimizing risks. If the client requests CIF, it is necessary to add 10-15% insurance premiums and clarify the coverage of maritime insurance. For documentation, in addition to invoices and packing lists, a copy of the CE or FCC certificate must be provided with the goods, otherwise customs clearance at the destination port will be delayed. The entire process includes: booking a shipping slot → warehouse declaration → loading onto the ship → confirmation of the bill of lading. Shipping to Europe takes approximately 28-32 days, and to West Coast ports in the United States, 18-22 days. Note that some countries may require additional health and quarantine certificates for silicone products. Confirm this with the client before shipment.

When negotiating LED bulb supply with foreign clients, the first step is to establish a professional image: send product specifications, certification documents, and factory ISO certificates directly, rather than waiting for the client to request them. For payment terms, insist on a 30% prepayment + 70% payment upon receipt of the bill of lading copy (T/T) for new clients, and never accept payment upon delivery. If the client requests an L/C, it must be an irrevocable sight letter of credit without any "soft clauses" in the terms. For sample policy: provide 1-2 meters of free samples, but charge the express fee on a collect basis, which not only tests the client's sincerity but also avoids free sampling. Clearly specify the technical parameters of silicone materials (e.g., UV resistance grade, flame retardancy grade) in the contract to prevent post-delivery disputes. To build trust, proactively provide production progress photos and videos, updated weekly, to give clients a sense of control. During price negotiations, bundle quotes for silicone bulbs and one-piece molded bulbs to leverage the combined advantages to secure orders, with individual product price reductions limited to no more than 5%.
