We just started doing exports, and the client asked us to quote a DDU price to their airport. How can I look up the DDU prices for each international airport? The information online is so confusing that I have no idea where to start.

First, you need to understand a key compliance issue: the trade term DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) was replaced by DAP (Delivered At Place) in the 2010 Incoterms rules. Continuing to use DDU may lead to trade disputes and legal risks. Currently, there are no official institutions providing so-called "international airport DDU price" inquiry services. The "DDU price" you mentioned actually refers to a cost combination: air freight + insurance + destination airport handling fees (but excluding customs duties and import taxes). It is recommended to immediately negotiate with clients to switch to the DAP term and clarify responsibilities in the contract to avoid compliance risks in subsequent customs clearance and pickup processes.

Direct practical method for you: There is no unified international airport DDU price inquiry system at all. What you need to do is to connect directly with logistics suppliers for quotes. Step 1: Prepare cargo information (product name, weight, volume, airport codes of origin and destination). Step 2: Contact at least 3-5 international freight forwarders or inquire directly with airlines, stating that you need a quote for "air freight to airport + pre-clearance service". Step 3: Ask the other party to provide a breakdown of fees, including air freight, fuel surcharge, destination port handling fees, etc. Note that many forwarders' quotes do not include destination storage fees and clearance fees, so be sure to confirm the scope of the quote. It is recommended to use online freight platforms (such as Freightos, Flexport) for quick price comparison, but ultimately you still need to confirm terms in writing with the forwarder.

Here are some high-EQ communication strategies that can demonstrate professionalism while buying time. When a client pressures you to quote a DDU price, don’t rush to give a number immediately. Instead, ask, "Thank you for your inquiry. To provide you with the most accurate all-inclusive airport price, could you please confirm that you’d like the terms to be DAP (Delivered at Destination)?" This not only refreshes the terminology but also collects crucial information. Then, tell the client, "I will coordinate with our logistics partners within 24 hours to provide you with a detailed breakdown of the door-to-airport costs." At the same time, you can note in the quote, "The offer is valid for 15 days, based on current fuel prices and exchange rates," leaving yourself enough leeway. Remember, what clients want isn’t the lowest price but the most reliable supplier. By breaking down the cost items in detail, you can build trust with them.
