Understand New Zealand's revised vehicle emissions standards (G/TBT/N/NZL/124), impacting used cars, motorcycles, and more. Key changes include Euro 5/V and Euro 6/VI compliance.

In the G/TBT/N/NZL/124 notification issued by New Zealand on May 12,2023,the Vehicle Exhaust Emission Standards 2023 was revised.This standard covers light - duty vehicles,heavy - duty vehicles,motorcycles,mopeds,and used scrapped vehicles,etc.The main contents are as follows:

Contents of the new standard

(1)Minimum Requirements for Used Vehicles

From February 1,2024,the minimum requirements for importing second-hand cars will be changed from Euro 4/IV to Euro 5/V,including scrapped vehicles.

(2)Transitional Period Requirements

From the end of 2024 to the beginning of 2028,second-hand imported cars and new cars (including newly scrapped vehicles) will be phased out from Euro 5/V to Euro 6/VI.

(3)Requirements for Scrapped Vehicles

Used scrapped vehicles must adopt the Euro 6d standard no later than January 1,2028.

(4)Requirements for Motorcycles

Introduce emission requirements for light motorcycles and motorcycles,adopting Euro 4 from February 1,2025,and Euro 5 from January 1,2027.

Before signing an import contract,it is necessary to promptly confirm the customs clearance requirements of the importing country with the importer or agent to avoid situations where relevant materials and product specifications do not meet the requirements of the local customs after arrival at the port,thus causing unnecessary losses.
